Struggling with sexual or gender identity can feel very isolating, overwhelming, and scary. Often religious, family, political or cultural issues force LGBTQ individuals to feel they must remain closeted. This often can lead to isolation, self-hatred, and depression.

How Therapy Can Help With Sexuality and Identity Issues

Therapy can help you to identify why it is you might feel the need to continue to hide your identity from others, possibly including yourself. We can discuss ways to have difficult conversations that feel empowering and non-threatening, and how to set boundaries with people who might struggle with your identity (not that your identity is their problem!).

My Approach to Treating Clients in the LGBTQ Community

As a member of the LGBTQ community, I bring understanding, empathy, compassion and experience to working with queer individuals. I look at how sexuality or gender identity has impacted your life thus far, and together we work to identify what you want your life to look like and what the obstacles are that are getting in your way, with the intention of creating a path forward that feels self-affirming, authentic, and safe.

Things to Consider

LGBTQ individuals are at a might higher rate for substance abuse, self-harm, depression, bullying, social isolation, and suicide. It is so important for us to find support and stick together. If you are suffering because of your sexuality or gender identity, you do not need to be. Reach out, we can change this for you and get your to truly love and honor yourself.
